Founded in October 2004, the Fremont Flute Ensemble (FFE) was established to accommodate the increasing number of avid flute students eager to expand their musical knowledge. Our mission is to provide young musicians with extensive ensemble training through weekly group rehearsals led by passionate and experienced teachers. Through this
Founded in October 2004, the Fremont Flute Ensemble (FFE) was established to accommodate the increasing number of avid flute students eager to expand their musical knowledge. Our mission is to provide young musicians with extensive ensemble training through weekly group rehearsals led by passionate and experienced teachers. Through this training, students develop performance skills and are able to explore a wide variety of music ranging from classical music to jazz, pop, and world repertoire.
Like many other musical groups, FFE went on hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After several quiet years, we’re excited to announce that FFE is back stronger than ever and ready to make music together again.

Our history
FFE presents two major performances each year: one in the spring and one in the fall, providing members with regular opportunities to perform and share their growth.
FFE has two groups:
The Junior Group – which is for flutists with at least 2 years of private lesson experience and are at late beginning to late intermediate levels.
The Sen

Fremont Flute Ensemble is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of flutists and musicians through dynamic learning experiences, distinguished performing opportunities, and rewarding friendships.

John Shao Jiang Huang is a highly accomplished and internationally recognized flutist and educator with a distinguished career spanning Asia, North America, and Europe. He is the co-founder and musical director of the Fremont Flute Ensemble (FFE), where he continues to inspire the next generation of flutists through ensemble leadership an
John Shao Jiang Huang is a highly accomplished and internationally recognized flutist and educator with a distinguished career spanning Asia, North America, and Europe. He is the co-founder and musical director of the Fremont Flute Ensemble (FFE), where he continues to inspire the next generation of flutists through ensemble leadership and individualized instruction.
Mr. Huang began his training on the dizi (笛子 - Chinese bamboo flute) at age six under the guidance of Lou Chun Ling, later expanding to the western flute under renowned teachers Tan Mi-Zi and Ling Ke-Min. As a graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he served as Principal Flutist and Woodwind Section Leader of the Shanghai Ballet Orchestra.
In 1982, he moved to the U.S. to study at the New England Conservatory of Music with Claude Monteux and Julius Baker. He later joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as Principal Flutist, where he performed for 14 years, touring internationally, and even having the honor of performing for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
After returning to the U.S., Mr. Huang co-founded FFE in 2004 in Fremont, California. Under his direction, students have many performing opportunities, developing strong ensemble and performance skills.
In addition to leading FFE, Mr. Huang teaches private flute lessons, helping students of all ages build strong technique and musical expression.
